From the earliest days of her childhood in southern California, Alice Leggett knew she was born to be an artist. It was only a very short time before the beauty and music of life began to appear in brilliant hues and forms onto her canvas.
Her love for art included taking every art class available, including Saturday classes at Art Center and Choinard's in Los Angeles during high school. She graduated from Orange Coast College with an A.A. in Fine Art.
In 1972 she began working as a graphic artist for printers, ad agencies and typesetting studios, which led to the creation of Leggett Graphics in 1990, with portrait commissions as part of her business.
Portrait painting has remained her passion throughout the years. Attending portrait workshops to hone her skills, Alice has studied with notable artists John Solie, Michelle Mitchell, Michael del Priore, Cathey Cadieux, Richard Whitney, Burton Silverman and Chris Saper. These experiences have had a profound effect on the quality of her work, while expanding her enthusiasm for portraiture.
In 2002, alice opened Leggett Portraits, her art studio in Costa Mesa, California. Painting portrait commissions, illustrations and fine art has kept her creative abilities in top form. "I am so thrilled when the finished painting is presented, and people are delighted with the results," she says.
In addition to teaching oil painting at Gallery by Biel in Costa Mesa, Alice gives portrait demonstrations and workshops for art leagues in southern California.
Alice Leggett is a member of the Portrait Society of America, California Art Club, and Southern California Plein Air Painters. |
